Good AM New York

Today I snapped a photo of one of the nicest people in New York City, my local AM New York newspaper man. Every day for the last year he's been stationed outside of the W. 4th Street subway, spreading the local news and some local cheer. I don't know his name, nor does he know mine, but we always exchanged a spirited greeting as I scurried along to work. Even on the most bitter cold winter day his smile could warm you and his scruffy New York accent was as authentic as it gets.

Cheers to you, Mr. AM New York. Have a great summer...

OMG I love this guy! This morning I was thinking about writing a song about him and how no matter what the weather, this guy stands outside the subway giving out papers and always is positive...then when you are on the subway, you see all these miserable people who don't even know how to return a smile!!!!!!

It's been a day of endings and beginnings. Graduation day for 69 students, a dear colleague tells me she is retiring next week, and my baby is moving an ocean away in less than 24 hours.

I'm so thrilled for you, Courtney! And I so deeply admire the courage and tenacity it took to make this dream a reality. I hope your Italy Adventure will be your greatest beginning ever -- the one that leads you to your destiny and to true happiness and fulfillment.

In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be
In my daughter's eyes

Today, you are my hero...I'll always love you, mom
